Friday
Today we have a press conference at 1100 in Henonk, so we are preparing for this. It was well attended, with articles in both newspapers in Okinawa, and stories on local television. But before that, it is on the water at 0700 to get the activists out to the platforms. The weather forecast is for lightning so everybody is on standby and are staying on the boats, not very comfortable since the sea is a bit rough today, around nine the weather clears and people get on the platforms. At platform 1 the tension is rising workers have not been able to do any work on the platform for some time now and want to replace some clamps that are starting to rust. The activists have a meeting to decide if they will let them work on the platform, the answer is no and the workers don’t push the issue today, but they are getting frustrated.
After the press conference that is well attended we head back out with food for three of the platforms and take a few people back in to the tent camp. We are still having some problems with the engine; hopefully I’ll get a chance to fix it over the weekend. We end the day taking some research divers on a brief trip to platform 3 and 5, they will be diving there tomorrow but want to have a quick look at the area.
