Budget...2.7 billion!?
I attend Environmental meeting at House of Representatives. First, Defense Facilities Administration Agency (DFAA) made an announcement about air base at Henoko. This fiscal year, their budget for the air base construction is more than 2.7 billion yen!!!
At same time, one Diet member asked a question that is it possible to do environmental research and drilling survey simultaneously?
According to DFAA member, the scaffold pipe size is not large and it won’t affect tidal current, but if they begin all the drilling survey points (63-point), it will affect for the environment, so they decide the maximum number is 8 at a time. Also, they avoid coral areas—approximately 300m away from the coral.
Mmm…However, they broke the coral last year’s scaffold construction.
Then, Japan Coast Guard talked about safety issues. They attempt to security for both constructors and local people. Again one of Diet member asked a question that is there any accidental report between constructors and local people? The Coast Guard says “No”. And for last year’s accident that one local activist dropped off from scaffold, is still under investigation because different comments from both side.
From the meeting one of Diet member comments, “The US government says they do not need an air base, but Japanese government does not say anything”.
If you see the Henoko’ current condition, you find that we need urgent solution which we do not air base in Okinawa.
