Cyberaction to ask the Kariwa village chief to reject Plutonium plan.
This is a call for a cyberaction to send messages to the village chief Shinada of Kariwa village, Niigata prefecture.
The Japanese government is trying to promote its "pluthermal plan" to burn plutonium MOX fuel inside nuclear power plants (details). However, the first ever use of the fuel was postponed due to BNFL falsification of the quality control data of the plutonium MOX fuel for the Takahama nuclear plant of Kepco (The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.) in Fukui prefecture.
Also, in Fukushima prefecture where the plutonium MOX fuel was planned to be used, the start of its use is also rejected by the Fukushima prefecture governor, due to the above data falsification incident and the criticality accident in Tokai village, Ibaraki prefecture.
In addition, regarding the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant in Niigata prefecture, the third nuclear power plant for the plutonium MOX fuel use, a referendum was held in 2001 by the Kariwa villagers to question right or wrong of the pluthermal (MOX) plan where the votes opposing the commencement of the plan won the majority and, again, the use of MOX fuel is postponed.
However, after one year since the referendum, Tokyo Electric is still pushing to start the program. The village chief, Mr. Shinada, of Kariwa village started to say, "I would like to see the change of public opinion (Kashiwazaki Nippo 25/05/2002)" as if the pluthermal could be started only if there were some change in the opinion of villagers. Meanwhile, TEPCO (The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc.) has never changed its stance that they "want to start it even a day earlier (communication to Greenpeace Japan)".
We would like to ask you to send an email to the village chief Shinada of Kariwa village and say: "please respect the result of the referendum and continue to reject the pluthermal plan." Please also include your own polite message.
